LESSON TWO: THE "DOTS"

OK, now that we're "set up" and "tuned" (we hope), lets get started.

We will begin our first lesson using the 5th string ONLY (the next to the fattest one).
The name of the DOT starting at the third fret 5th string is the note "C". (Assuming you are tuned to STANDARD or A-440, and even if not, the "THEORY" behind it is still the same.)

The example then is:
* Don't worry about the "SHARP" sign just yet, just LEARN IT!

I find that using just one finger, say your index finger is the best way to learn the names of the DOTS. Just point to each DOT with a finger, then say the names (C-D-E-F#) while touching them (OVER and OVER and OVER...) until you know them forwards, backwards and inside out.

(Here's a GOOD example of a BAD set up, for BEGINNING GUITAR THEORY purposes anyway.
Notice where It's DOTS line up .. "1"st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th fret !)

Remember, The 1st Fret Marker is OUR Enemy :-)

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW!
(See, that wasn't TOO painful was it?)
